Step TWELVE
Having had a spiritual awakening
as the result of these steps,
we tried to carry this message to alcoholics,
and to practice these principles in all our affairs
I can do things I never could do before. I do not have to use today. I could never say that before and this is a lie. There was a time where I didn’t use, but there is a part of me that doesn’t want me to remember that. I’ve been set free. Because of the fact I’m clean, I’m allowed to do many things I never dreamed I could ever do. I’m looking at the world with a different set of eyes.
So surely I’ve had some kind of spiritual awakening.
Now, I’m charged with a responsibility. There really are no free rides; you have to pay for what you receive. I am now charged with the responsibility of carrying THIS message to other alcoholics (addicts); not ‘a’ message, not ‘the’ message, not ‘some’ message, ‘THIS’ message.
What is THIS message?
“Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, …”
I’m not like I used to be. If you’re in AA/NA today and you’re all screwed up, you don’t feel good, you’ve been doing a little drinking/drugging or even thinking about it – I know exactly where you’re coming from. That’s where I came from too. But, I applied these first eleven steps and I had a spiritual awakening, so I’m not that way anymore. You can do the same. It’s the main message that the AA Big Book has.
There’s no doubt in my mind God picked me out.
He let me suffer from my drug use so I would learn what He wants me to know.
And then when He got ready to utilize me,
He removed the obsession to use.
That’s the reason I’m here today-
to be able to help other addicts/alcoholics.
I have found my purpose,
we hope you are fortunate to find yours!
