STEP ONE

“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.”

The AA Fellowship took the steps out of the book and put them on a wall. This took place throughout the 1940's and '50s. Here is the result:

So how do you know what these steps actually mean? The people in the meeting tell you what they are. Because everybody is saying the same thing, you believe that they are right — WRONG!

This is what happened to me. After 13 years of being in recovery, I realized I didn't even know what the first step was!

This Is What the First Step Is

Like most drug addicts, I do not have the physical allergy to alcohol. What we possess is a disease of the MIND — a spiritual malady.
